According to a little-known 2006 United Nations report entitled “Livestock’s Long Shadow,” livestock is a major player in climate change, accounting for 18 percent of all greenhouse gas emissions (measured in carbon dioxide equivalents). Mootral™ (mootral.com) - Australia's government has decided not to include the agricultural sector in a future national emissions cap-and-trade scheme. As such "The Government does not consider that it is practical at this stage to include agriculture emissions in the trading scheme at commencement." This is despite the fact that agriculture emits 16% of Australia's total greenhouse gas emissions.
