![]() Mootral - Supermarket giant Tesco has become the first UK retailer to display the full carbon footprint of milk — one of the top-selling products in its stores. From today, all Tesco own-label full-fat, semi-skimmed and skimmed milk ranges will display the carbon footprint label as part of an on-going drive to help shoppers make "green" purchasing decisions. It has pledged to "footprint" 500 products by the end of the year. The new labelling will not apply to organic milk, where greenhouse gas emissions are generally much lower than for conventional milk. via The Guardian>> Friday, August 7

Alas, Mootral finished second in the Financial Times Climate Challenge. We would like to thank all of those who voted for us, and understand that the voting system set up by Financial Times did have some technical difficulties, and acknowledge that.
However, we would like to congratulate Kyoto Box for winning the competition and wish them the best of luck! Monday, March 23

mootral - (www.mootral.com) by Michael Mathres, co-Founder, Mootral. We are launching a global campaign to STOP COWS FARTING! because we were shortlisted by the Financial Times and need as many people to vote in order to win a $75,000 that will enable us to finish our dosage tests.
A few key facts why it is important for you to vote for us, in order to reduce carbon emissions and solve climate change: - THERE ARE OVER A BILLION COWS ON EARTH - EACH COW PRODUCE 500 LITRES OF METHANE A DAY (ONE LITRE OF METHANE IS 27 TIMES MORE POWERFUL THAN CARBON!) - COWS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR 20% OF ALL GREENHOUSE GAS EMISSIONS - THAT IS MORE THAN ALL THE TRANSPORTATION SECTOR (CARS, TRUCKS, PLANES, TRAINS, BOATS ETC...) - COWS PRODUCE MORE EMISSIONS THAN BP AND SHELL COMBINED! So please vote for us now to STOP COWS FARTING! at http://www.ft.com/indepth/climatechallenge Friday, March 20

Mootral - Studies show that the production of one litre of milk produces the equivalent of 900g of CO2. More than half of this is down to methane. The average cow emits between 80kg and 120kg of methane a year, equivalent to the annual carbon emissions from an average family car. ,a href="http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/2009/feb/17/cadbury-dairy-milk-cows>via The Guardian>>

![]() mootral (www.mootral.com) - Ask most Americans about what causes global warming, and they’ll point to a coal plant smokestack or a car’s tailpipe. They’re right, of course, but perhaps two other images should be granted similarly iconic status: the front and rear ends of a cow. According to a little-known 2006 United Nations report entitled “Livestock’s Long Shadow,” livestock is a major player in climate change, accounting for 18 percent of all greenhouse gas emissions (measured in carbon dioxide equivalents). That’s more than the entire transportation system! Unfortunately, this incredibly important revelation has received only limited attention in the media. Mootral™ (mootral.com) - Australia's government has decided not to include the agricultural sector in a future national emissions cap-and-trade scheme. As such "The Government does not consider that it is practical at this stage to include agriculture emissions in the trading scheme at commencement." This is despite the fact that agriculture emits 16% of Australia's total greenhouse gas emissions.
