Project type: Livestock - Enteric methane
Project location: United Kingdom
Project status: Operational
Annual CO2 reduction: 1 tonne per cow

Mootral and agricultural partners have worked together to shape a future which creates climate-smart solutions. This CowCredit project supports agricultural businesses to reduce emissions from UK dairy farms and industries.  Mootral is a global solution that benefits farmers, businesses, consumers – as well as the planet.

The project introduces Mootral® feed into dairy cattle diet aiming to reduce methane (CH4) emissions from enteric fermentation by direct inhibition of methanogens in the rumen. Mootral's patented complementary feed based on garlic and citrus extracts; this combination has been shown to synergistically work together in helping animal health/welfare and productivity whilst also reducing methane emissions in dairy cows.
